Resolution

European directive on driving licences

FERPA Executive Committee – 21st February 2024

 FERPA, the European Federation of Retired and Elderly People, at its Executive Committee meeting on Wednesday 21st February 2024, discussed the proposed revision of the Driving Licence Directive, which will be submitted to the Plenary of the European Parliament on 27th February 2024.

The delegates of the FERPA Executive Committee :

 – welcome the “Zero Death” initiative on Europe’s roads in 2050 ;

 – ask that no new discrimination based on age be created;

 – insist on respecting the rights of the elderly.

Also thanks to our urging, European parliamentarians did not accept the Commission's proposal to reduce the validity of driving licenses for the elderly.
